Overview

In an effort to better understand Ecuador's urban development, land use, sustainability, and conservation, our trip was divided into a series of exercises to guide our explorations.

 

The following prompts will be explored in the "Quito" and "Galápagos Islands" tabs.

Exercise #1

Identify urban planning issues, urban land use, historic preservation, neighborhood revitalization, and trans-active planning

Exercise #2

Identify conflicts in urban land use; in particular, the urban concept of duality problems and impacts of urban growth, aesthetics, historic preservation in a world heritage site, functionality, and community development in inner-city neighborhoods

Exercise #3

Learn the importance of the Condamine expedition in the early 18th century in advancing our knowledge about our planet; discuss their accomplishments and their significance.

Identify issues of sustainability, conservation, the introduction of new species, and the impact of urbanization and tourism on the islands

Exercise #5

What is the significance of rethinking how we experience our world (using indigenous knowledge) and how we redraw maps of our world to reflect that experience?
